I have a bit of a broad question about the collaboration of neurodivergents (ND) and neurotypical people (NT). On the average, what works best:
a) ND- ND collaboration
b) ND-NT collaboration
c) NT- NT collaboration
One could formulate two contrary hypotheses:
1) ND- ND collaboration is most effective because ND tend to have a higher average level of self awareness than NT. I.e. a) is better than either b) or c)
2) ND-ND collaboration is less effective that NT-NT collaboration because ND are more different among each other than NT are among each other. I.e. c) is better than either a) or b)
For example, here is a successful company with a large proportion of ND employees: https://www.oreateai.com/blog/enabled-intelligence-how-a-startup-with-autistic-employees-outperformed-scale-ai/8d4de13f8fa1a4465cf126ba8dab3aa7
Of course this is only one example. But it, among some considerations from my own practice, made me think about this.
What are your thoughts? Is anyone aware of related research?
This is a really good question!!! And the answer depends on the type of work I guess, so it’s pretty nuanced. Sometimes NT‘s can be very grounding and bring in the structure we crave for our busy minds. But on the other side, when it‘s about creativity and innovation, working together with other ND‘s is so much more inspiring, more efficient and high paced but also much more fun because it’s like a creative snowball effect 😄
‘when it‘s about creativity and innovation, working together with other ND‘s is so much more inspiring, more efficient and high paced but also much more fun’ – I feel the same! 🙂
